Hello, I'm Josh

Not that I necessarily need to write this but it's Wednesday, October 14th. 2026. I always write the date in my journal so, today, I'll keep the same practice here. Tomorrow, who knows. I've written about a variety of things on this blog and some I struggle to not go back and delete. But I suppose it's all true for better or worse. Good gigs and bad gigs, great days and shit days. Maybe I should mention that the noticeable gaps in post dates aren't because I deleted a year or two worth of massively insightful writing but because I simply didn't write anything for extensive amounts of time. Anyhow, back to today. It's looking like the tail end of a second summer or a St. Luke's summer as they call it in the UK... the internet told me that, not someone actually in the UK. But it's been awfully nice this week and I'm assuming it's gonna end soon and get to being cold and winter-esque.

I've been preparing to launch a new business for a while and I think it's time to stop the preparations and hit the go button. Thing is I'm human and I resonate with all these contemporary buzz words people are using to explain why they don't do things they intend to and since I've always tried to avoid the "in" crowd I'll just raise my hand here and admit to simply not taking the steps I need to do to push my plans forward. BAM! There's a little straight talk for your hump day. But I also have a habit of leaving clarity out of my communication so to be clear, I'm insinuating that I suffer from the perils of perfectionism and people-pleasing and a lack of self-trust. Throw in some clinical depression, a few pounds of ADHD and severely fucked executive functioning ability and voila....Josh Harty ladies and gentlemen!

I loathe the word alcoholic but in the spirit of clarity, I’ll use it here. Many of you may know this but I'm a recovering alcoholic and I’m making lemonade out of the big fucking lemon that is addiction. By that I mean that in addition to being Josh Harty the musician, occasional carpenter and professional dog companion, I am now adding addiction recovery guide to the lineup. This is something I’ve been working on for a bit now and it’s fair to say it’s taken a long damn time because, honestly,  it’s work that means a great deal to me. And remember that perfectionism part and the self-trust part. Addiction is a real motherfucker and I’m keenly aware of the heartache that so many good people deal with daily not to mention the social judgment bullshit the world throws at us on a recurring basis.

I get it.

Every day is a new day for me and each one brings a new challenge. Strikes and gutters. Rainbows and rain. The only thing I can say with 100% certainty is that nothing is 100% but choosing to live without alcohol was the most consequential decision I've ever made. If you're looking for someone who's got this shit in the bag and all figured out, I'm probably not your guy. But if you want to talk to a dude who's on a similar path and perhaps a few mistakes ahead, feel free to drop me a line.

Hello, I’m Josh and I’m an alcoholic, an addict, a person suffering from perfectionism and a chronic people pleaser. I’m a little codependent and I struggle with depression and I’m ADD AF. That’s a lot of labels to simply say I’m Josh. Just a dude.

And I want to help.
